MD Editor is a lightweight, free Markdown editor. It shows hard-to-read Markdown as a clean page and lets you edit the same .md files your AI writes.
Free. No account, no tracking, no ads.
Asterisks, pipes and hash signs become headings, tables, task lists, footnotes, quotes and code on one clean page, in light or dark mode.
Try it: type or paste Markdown
ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini answer in Markdown, and AI agents keep their plans and notes in .md files. Open those files in MD Editor and they read like finished documents. Your edits are saved to the same file, where your AI can pick them up.
Plain .md files, right where they are. Nothing to import, nothing locked in.
On Windows, when an AI agent changes the file you have open, the new version appears. If you have unsaved edits, MD Editor asks what to do and can keep both versions.
Saves as you type, so your AI reads your latest words.
Open a .md file and write. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to import.
Headings, bold, links and lists stand out as you write.
Your changes go straight into the file.
Open, edit and save without a connection.
Follows your device, or pick one.
English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Spanish and Ukrainian.

MD Editor is a lightweight, free Markdown editor for Windows and Android. It highlights Markdown as you type, shows it as a clean rendered page, and saves your .md files where they are, so you and your AI work on the same files. On Android you can also write right on the rendered page. No account, no tracking, no ads.
Save the answer as a .md file and open it in MD Editor, or paste it into a new document. The preview shows its headings, lists, tables and code as a clean page, in light or dark mode.
Yes. MD Editor edits plain .md files in place and saves as you type, so an AI agent reads your latest text. On Windows, when an AI agent changes a file you have open, MD Editor shows the new version. If you have unsaved edits, it asks whether to keep both versions, use the one on disk, or keep yours.
Install MD Editor from the Microsoft Store. Then open a .md or .markdown file from File Explorer, drag it into the window, or choose Open… in the File menu. Files you've opened before are under Open Recent.
Install MD Editor from Google Play. Then tap Open and pick a .md file from your phone or a storage app, or choose MD Editor when you open a .md file in another app. The file opens in Write, where you write right on the rendered page. The buttons at the top switch to Source or Preview, and Settings › Open Documents In sets the view documents open in.
Not yet. MD Editor for Mac, iPhone and iPad is coming to the App Store. On those devices you write directly on the rendered page: no Markdown symbols get in your way, and your file stays plain Markdown. A Source view with highlighting shows the Markdown itself, Mac and iPad add a Split view with a live preview, and optional free sync through your own iCloud works across all three. On Mac it also exports to PDF. It needs no account, has no tracking and works fully offline.
Yes, it's free, with no ads and no in-app purchases. You don't need an account.
It works fully offline; only images linked from the web need a connection. It has no analytics and no tracking, and the developer never sees your documents.
The preview supports GitHub Flavored Markdown (headings, lists, task lists, tables, strikethrough, quotes, code, links and images), plus footnotes, definition lists, highlighted text, and superscript and subscript.
Free on Windows and Android. Coming to Mac, iPhone and iPad.
